Anal glands refer to small scent glands located on either side of a dog's anus. These glands produce a fluid that is used by dogs to mark their territory, communicate with other dogs or express themselves in various ways. The anal gland secretions have a strong and distinctive odor which helps identify the presence of another animal through its scent.
